What does Power BI Premium P3 do? How does it work?

Power BI Premium P3 consists of capacity in the Power BI service exclusively allocated to each organization. The capacity is supported by dedicated hardware fully managed by Microsoft. Organizations can choose to apply their capacity broadly, or allocate it to assigned workspaces based on the number of users, workload needs, or other factors-and scale up or down as requirements change.

How is Power BI Pro different than Power BI Premium P3?

Power BI Premium P3 is a capacity-based license, while Power BI Pro and Premium Per User (PPU) are user-based licenses. Power BI Pro is for those users publishing reports, sharing dashboards, collaborating with colleagues in workspaces and engaging in other related activities – such as the ability to:

  • Edit and save customized views
  • Create personal dashboards (pin to new dashboard)
  • Analyze data in Excel or Power BI Desktop
  • Share with Excel Web App support
  • Share dashboards and collaborate with Microsoft 365 Groups
  • Integrate content with Microsoft Teams
  • A Premium Per User (PPU) license includes all the functionality of a Pro user, plus additional capabilities.

Power BI Pro or Premium Per User (PPU) is required to publish reports, share dashboards, collaborate with colleagues in workspaces and engage in other related activities. Power BI Pro isn't required to consume content in Premium capacity.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get a Power BI Premium P3?

A Microsoft 365 subscription that your purchase from a Microsoft or a Cloud Solution Provider, also known as a reseller, is always associated with a tenant. The tenant is a platform where the security, features and users are managed in a central administration site. If you don't already have a tenant one will be provisioned as a part of the sign-up process and the Power BI Premium P3 subscription will be added.

What is the difference between Monthly and Annual Commitment Pricing?

When evaluating pricing and value amongst different providers it's important to read the fine print. If you find a lower price on a subscription be sure to check the commitment term. Many of these will have a year or longer commitment which means that if you wish to cancel or reduce the number of subscriptions you are still obligated through the end of the year for that subscription. Our commitment terms are monthly which gives your business greater flexibility to adjust the number of subscriptions on a monthly basis. We also provide personalized, expedient and friendly support that is unequaled in the industry.

How do I transfer my Microsoft 365 account?

Your Microsoft 365 tenant is independent of where you choose to purchase your subscriptions. You can purchase subscriptions directly from Microsoft or from a variety of official Cloud Solution Providers, also known as a reseller, at the same time. To transfer your Microsoft 365 subscription to a new reseller you only need to cancel the subscriptions with the other provider effective the start date of the new subscriptions.

Can I use my own domain with Office 365?

When a Microsoft 365 tenant is first provisioned its domain is created as "mycompany.onmicrosoft.com" where "mycompany" is a distinct name for the business or organization. When users are created their login user name by default will be "user1@mycompany.onmicrosoft.com" until a custom domain is added. To setup a custom domain with Microsoft 365 it only requires adding a few DNS settings with your domain registrar. Once this is done users can login with a more readable user name such as "user1@mycompany.com".

How do I download Office 365?

Many subscriptions in the Microsoft 365 suite of products or other Cloud Managegement software packages come with components that you download to your computer for use such as Office 365. Once your subscription is provisioned and assigned to a user the software can be downloaded from www.office.com. The user must be logged in with their Office 365 user account.
